CARF Accredited
Who are CARF?
Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services, CARF International is a nonprofit accreditor of human service providers in the areas of aging services, behavioral health, child and youth services, employment and community services and medical rehabilitation, amongst others. The CARF family of organizations currently accredits more than 5,500 providers at more than 19,000 locations on five continents. More than 7.2 million persons of all ages are served annually by CARF-accredited providers.
What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a process that demonstrates a provider has met standards for the quality of its services. CARF establishes these standards to guide providers in offering their services. CARF also uses the standards to evaluate how well a provider is serving people and how it can improve.
What is a CARF Survey?
As a step toward accreditation, a provider invites CARF to send a team of professionals, called surveyors, to visit its site and evaluate its services for quality. The surveyors consult with staff members and interview people who use the provider’s services. Based on the surveyors’ review, the provider may be awarded CARF accreditation for one or three years. In some cases, the provider may need to improve its services before it can become accredited.
PRACL’s Accreditation – Next Survey Spring 2010
PRACL is required by our funders to be accredited. In 2004 PRACL achieved its first three year accreditation with superlative results. The agency went on to establish ongoing practices that adhere to CARF’s stringent standards. In 2007, PRACL again received a three year accreditation. As PRACL approaches the 2010 survey there is increasing discussion about how to demonstrate compliance to standards in the most efficient and effective manner ensuring that we are using our limited resources in way that maintains our focus on service provision including innovations.
