Child and Family Services

Early Intervention and School Aged Therapies

Early Intervention (birth to 6 years) and School Aged (6 to 19 years) operates out of 7055 Alberni Street at the Jean Pike Centre for Children and Youth.  Therapists work with children who have delayed or impaired motor skills and/or sensory issues.  Referrals to this service can be made by self referral or by any other professional resource.

Early intervention in school aged therapy consists of two service areas:

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is use of self-care, work, and play activities to increase independent functioning, enhance development and prevent disability.  Occupational therapy services are individually designed to help children achieve specific developmental milestones or to compensate for any areas of chronic functional impairment.

Physiotherapy

A physiotherapist sees children who are at high risk or have a delay and could benefit from physiotherapy to increase independent functioning, enhanced development, prevent disabilities, develop physical fitness and support parents to build confidence in parenting a child with extra needs.
