Employment Services is for adults, 19 years and older, who have a developmental disability and are interested in working. The office is located at 106-4675 Marine Ave. We support people with career development, job search, on-site training and job maintenance.
We work closely with other PRACL services like Life Skills, Crossroads and the Community Life program, to ensure that people are being supported towards their employment goals, holistically. The needs of each client will be different and must be planned for individually. Your key worker will help you in the discovery process which could include:
- gathering information on educational and work opportunities
- writing resumes and practicing interviews
- speaking with other people to gain more knowledge
- volunteer placements
- job shadowing
- work experience
- paid employment: often starting at minimum wage
Employment Services supports clients with on the job training with the goal of each client working independently at their job site and to be a full participant in the work culture.
We aspire to support people to:
- have meaningful and valued jobs.
- have long-term, sustainable and satisfying employment.
- be included by employers as the natural course of doing business
- continue to learn new skills and have the opportunity to advance in their work.
Eligibility to the program is determined by criteria established by CLBC and referrals are made to the program by CLBC. If the program is full, then you will be put on a waitlist for service by both CLBC and PRACL. If CLBC can fund the new service, then PRACL can usually provide the service immediately.
