Child and Family Services

Family Support Services

This service supports 0-19 year olds who have a life-long developmental disability, have an Autism Spectrum Disorder or who are on the At Home Program.  Children and youth are supported in the home or community setting based on individually identified needs.  This service operates out of 7055 Alberni Street at the Jean Pike Centre for Children and Youth.  Referrals to this service can be made by self referral or by any other professional resource.

Most children served are over the age of six because families of younger children typically access PRACL’s early intervention services.  In conjunction with school-based programs, family support offers individual and group activities to support each child's development.
Services are typically community-based.  Planning for the child/youth and family needs; a parent network and support for teenagers in making smooth transitions to adult services is offered. Skill development is the primary focus of this program.  Individual service plans developed collaboratively with the child and family guide the types of skills targeted.  The range includes self-help and life skills, social skills and safety.

Family Support Services runs a summer program called JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT. The summer program offers children and youth with a range of creative activities which allows them to grow physically, emotionally and socially. We take pride in providing a fun and engaging program to enhance their summer. Activities planned are responsive to and appropriate for the individual and group needs of each child and youth.
