The history of PRACL
In 1954, Powell River Association for Community Living was formed by a group of parents who banded together for mutual support and to advocate for services for their children who were living with a developmental disability.
From the very onset other people in our community recognized this as an opportunity to get involved. It was a way to support families in their neighborhood, to be a part of a societal movement that felt right to them. It was an opportunity to get to know more about individuals born with a developmental disablilty and a way to include these individuals in the community.
The volunteers back then brought to this agency their passion, knowledge and energy. The contribution of volunteers, students, family members and self-advocates combined with our dedicated employees continues to be the driving force that moves PRACL forward.
