Consultants specialize in infant and early childhood development. Services focus on families with children birth to three years of age who are at risk for or have a developmental delay.
This is a voluntary and family centered program, which means the parents decide how much and which kind of support they need. The programme operates out of 7055 Alberni Street at the Jean Pike Centre for Children and Youth. Referrals to this service can be made by self referral or by any other professional resource.
The program provides opportunities for parents to: Learn ways to encourage their child's development, to meet other parents, to discuss parenting issues, for the babies to become more independent, to discover abilities, to learn new skills.
Groups offered are:
- Playgroup offers children a place to learn to play and for parents to socialize and support each other.
- Infant massage teaches parents how to massage their babies using techniques sanctioned by the International Association of Infant Massage.
- Parent, Child, Mother Goose is a group that focuses on the power and pleasure of story, rhyme and songs. This fun activity promotes the parent, child relationship and builds new skills for both of them.
