Self Advocacy
The Self Advocates Group meets on the 1st Monday of every month at 10:30 am at the Marine Avenue Office, 201-4675 Marine Avenue. Dates are changed on Statutory holidays so be sure to check the Events Calendar.
Self advocates learned to speak for themselves and to advocate for changes to services and programs. We serve on the PRACL Board of Directors, which involves us in decisions about the services we receive. We meet once a month to talk about the important things that affect us. Our group raises money to support a young girl in India her name is Reena. She is also challenged like us. The group fundraises so that self advocates can go to the BC Association for Community Living Annual General Meeting or other events to learn more about advocating for ourselves. One self advocate, Janet Robertson was involved in a hike up Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa that was sponsored by PRACL and the BCACL. This hike shows people that self advocates can do just about anything!
